The Elder Scrolls Online: 5 Improvements and Additions We'd Like to See

Added: 02.05.2014 18:00 | 0 views | 0 comments

The Elder Scrolls Online didn't quite live up to our hopes, displaying occasional flashes of brilliance with its sweeping vistas and intricate quests, only to disappoint with its inability to marry narrative ambition with a massively multiplayer framework. But as with any MMOG, the game you experience on release date won't be the same game you play a few months down the line. So with that in mind, GameSpot editors Kevin VanOrd and Shaun McInnis spent some time conjuring up a wishlist of features they'd like to see added or improved in the coming months.

Kevin: Large-Scale Dynamic Events

Is there anything sadder than The Elder Scrolls Online’s dark anchors? Just a half-dozen players can turn these ever-so-slightly-dynamic events into a race to see who can get in even a single shot before each daedric attacker falls in battle. These meager occurrences are laughable shadows of

Is it day? It it night? Is it going to rain? Why are there butterflies and torchbugs next to each other?

Few MMOGs go out of their way to make nighttime all that different from daytime, but the Elder Scrolls series has always given significance to time’s passage. Not only would the variable NPC behavior make the game feel more alive, but time-based elements could give Tamriel an air of the unexpected.

Of course, our wishlist extends beyond these five possibilities, and yours may be even longer. What would you like to see in The Elder Scrolls Online? Share your ideas in the comments below!

Over the last week, weve logged into The Elder Scrolls Online on five consecutive days, and everytime, there was mail waiting, offering gold-farming services. Its not an uncommon problem in MMORPGs. In fact, it would be odd to play one without some level of spam plaguing the game, whether it's receiving a private whisper or seeing it being shouted out across public channels. Yet it seems that, despite all the good things The Elder Scrolls Online has managed to accomplish, the game is absolutely littered with this trash. Sadly, in a world that could thrive and flourish with true immersion and benefit from genuine roleplaying experiences, more often than not, youre instantly greeted with BUY ME NOW. 48 HOURS BEFORE GOLD IS DEPOSITED IN YOUR BANK. CHEAP RATES. TELL ME FOR FO And it makes Expansive wonder. How did gold-farming get so big and why is it still such a lucrative business? But perhaps more to the point, why must we put up with this continued harassment,...

To make up for launch issues which impacted game time.

Frior explained the decision to dish out free game time in a new blog post.

"We recognize that some of the launch issues - especially black market botting and spam, de-synced quests, and the disappearing bank slot bug - affected the early gameplay experience of a number of players," wrote Frior. "Fixing these problems required us to take the megaservers offline, costing players time in the game. In recognition of this experience and to show our gratitude to everyone who supported the launch, we are giving an additional five days of included game time to every ESO player who set...
